Marc Jacobs was born in 1963 in New York and fashion was always going to be a strong part of his life as it was a profession and passion that ran in his family. Jacobs attended the highly acclaimed High School of Art and Design and later the Parsons School of Design. His first fashion design project was to design hand knitted jumpers for the Charivari stores.
After leaving college, Marc Jacobs joined forces with co-designer Robert Duffy the pair joined Perry Ellis where they were in charge of the women’s fashion. By 1997, the design duo were involved in projects for luxury labels including Louis Vuitton whereby they started designing and making handbags. It was in this same year that the first Marc Jacobs store opened in New York.
